Biography
An East Los Angeles native, Vyal One — born Jaime Reyes — has been wielding a spray can since 1990. Self-taught and deeply rooted in Native American and Chicano cultures, he draws on traditional ceremonies, lowrider aesthetics and psychedelic imagery to build a style defined by hypnotic, ever-present eyes that he sees as symbols of protection and magic. A member of the COI, K2S, LOD and 90dbc crews, he has spent over three decades establishing himself as one of LA's most enduring graffiti muralists.
His work has attracted commissions from Lexus, Red Bull and Christian Louboutin and sits in the collections of The Getty and MOCA. Since 2011, the artist has held a residency at Self Help Graphics in Boyle Heights, teaching aerosol art to young people and adults while passing on the unwritten rules and history of the graffiti movement.
From Los Angeles to Barcelona and Berlin, Vyal One carries a visual universe where spirituality, dreamlike visions and cultural heritage converge on walls. Guided by the belief that street art should be felt before it is understood, each mural becomes an invitation to look inward as much as an act of public presence.
