Biography
Miguel "Bounce" Perez, known as Mister Bouncer, is a visual artist and tattoo specialist from West Berkeley, California. Raised by a Mexican mother and a Filipino father, he grew up immersed in Chicano culture — learning Old English lettering from his uncles, portrait drawing from his mother and lowrider craft from his father, co-founder of the Pueblo Nuevo car club. These family roots underpin a practice that spans muralism, tattooing and community activism.
In 2003, the artist co-founded Trust Your Struggle, a collective painting murals at low or no cost in underserved communities. The crew has worked across the Bay Area, the Philippines, Hawai'i, Mexico and Nicaragua, wielding public art as a tool for cultural dignity. A 2009 trip to the Philippines proved pivotal, reshaping his understanding of what art can — and cannot — address in communities facing systemic need.
Based at Philthy Clean Tattoo in Berkeley, Mister Bouncer maintains a parallel mural practice visible across San Francisco and Oakland. Deliberately versatile — from Mayan goddesses and anime to Cali-Chicano script — his work on skin and on walls alike seeks to make visible the cultures and stories too often overlooked.
