Biography
Birdy Kids was born in 1989 on the ring roads of Lyon, when graffiti writer Stéphane — known as Knar — began painting small, round birds on the city's walls. In 2007, Guillaume and Gautier joined him to form a three-person collective, giving the character "Birdy" — orange beak, pink tongue, bouncing silhouette — the wings to travel far beyond Lyon's railway lines. Initially dismissed as vandalism, the bird became a city emblem, deliberately spared by municipal cleaning crews.
In 2012 the collective was named cultural ambassador for OnlyLyon and embarked on a European tour. Five years later they founded Le Mur 7 in Lyon's 7th arrondissement, a platform hosting urban artists under their artistic direction. In November 2019 the exhibition "Watching You" at the Fourvière religious art museum drew 30,000 visitors in a single month, sealing the trio's crossover from street to institution.
Defined by flat blocks of vivid colour outlined in bold black, Birdy Kids champion a street art that is playful, inclusive and free of manifesto. Through murals, canvases, sculptures and corporate team-building workshops, the collective continues its mission: spreading colour wherever concrete calls for it.
