Simona Accattatis

Simona Accattatis

Biography

Simona Accattatis was born in Rome in 1970. She studied arts, music and performance (DAMS) at the University of Bologna before moving to Lisbon, where she earned a drawing degree from the Fine Arts School in 2014. Her distinctive visual language revolves around recurring figures — robots, cats and hybrid creatures — drawn onto pages salvaged from old schoolbooks in a technique she calls "palimpsest."

Her practice spans illustration, collage and urban intervention. In 2016, she created a permanent street art piece titled "Tiles, Angels and Robots" in the Alfama district of Lisbon as part of the PARATISSIMA Lisboa project. She has also shown at the XVIII Bienal de Cerveira in Portugal and held a duo exhibition at Cell Gallery in Toronto. Across Lisbon, her characters appear on the walls of abandoned buildings, blending quietly into the city's layered surfaces.

A regular presence at Feira da Ladra, Lisbon's historic flea market, the artist draws and exhibits on site, forging a direct connection with local collectors. Her work moves between nostalgia and play, melancholy and fantasy, mining childhood memories through a visual vocabulary that is at once naive and meticulous.
