Biography
Innerfields is a Berlin-based collective founded in 1998 by Jakob Tory Bardou, Holger Weißflog and Veit Tempich, three artists who grew up between East and West Berlin steeped in the city's graffiti culture. Weißflog and Bardou studied surface design at the Kunsthochschule Weißensee. From the outset, they developed a figurative, realistic style layered with graphic elements and symbols, rooted in the friction between nature and the built environment.
Their central theme examines humanity's relationship with technology and a mechanised world. A recurring motif, the Berliner Bär — Berlin's heraldic bear — appears across their compositions as a symbol of the desire to reclaim nature within the urban landscape. For over two decades, the collective has produced around twenty murals a year worldwide, painting in cities from Berlin and Hamburg to Hong Kong, Prague and Aalborg.
Active across commissioned projects, street art festivals and independent façade interventions, they also exhibit on canvas in gallery settings. Their work has been shown at Urban Nation in Berlin, x23 Gallery and Urbanshit Gallery, and covered by outlets including Brooklyn Street Art and Street Art News.
