Biography
Earth Crusher is a project created by Montreal artist Marc-André Castagner, known as Dré. In 2003, while studying fine arts at CEGEP, he began painting on highways, tracksides and trains across Montreal. The rebellious, anti-authoritarian spirit behind those early graffiti days led directly to the creation of the Earth Crusher character — a suit-and-tie corporate agent with a transmitter for a head, inspired by unscrupulous political and financial leaders.
Through this recurring figure, the artist addresses exploitation, deforestation, modern slavery and the excesses of unchecked capitalism. He has been known to appear in public disguised as Earth Crusher and to give interviews in character. Beyond street art, his practice extends to studio painting and wood-and-steel installations. His 2016 solo show "The Chosen One Percent" at Artgang Montreal brought that critical dimension into the gallery space.
About a decade into his career, Dré joined the Ashop crew, painting murals across cities in Canada and the United States. He has taken part in Montreal's Festival MURAL, and his work is documented by platforms including Wall2Wall Montreal and Street Art United States.
