Biography

Julien Brouand, known as Abys, is a French self-taught urban artist from Nancy. He has been drawing since childhood and discovered graffiti at sixteen in 2006 when a classmate introduced him to spray paint. He studied applied arts at Lycée Loritz before devoting himself fully to mural painting and illustration.

In 2011 he founded the duo Osmoz with Le Bret (later Suroh), combining illustration and lettering in collaborative frescoes. He also joined the hip-hop collective Le Nid de Guêpes, which blends visual art with live music. His world is populated by whimsical characters and a fantastical bestiary — a jazz-playing rat, a thieving raccoon — rendered in a style that shifts between realistic figuration and graphic poetry. A lifelong cartoon enthusiast, he brings an offbeat, colourful touch to every composition.

Based in the Nancy area, he paints on legal walls, EDF power substations and private facades, and takes part in festivals including Urban Graff X, Chill Up and COLORS Urban Art (2019). His practice extends to canvas, screen printing and tattooing. An active member of Osmoz-Colors, he pursues collaborative work while developing a recognisable personal style driven by attention to detail and a consistent graphic wit.
