Biography
Inti Castro, known as Inti — from the Quechua word for "sun" — is a Chilean muralist born in 1982 in Valparaíso. He began painting on walls at the age of thirteen and cut his teeth as part of the STGO Undercrew collective, with whom he still occasionally collaborates. His practice combines roller and aerosol to produce monumental, richly coloured murals rooted in Latin American imagery.
His compositions frequently feature a recurring character called the Kusillo, a trickster figure drawn from Andean folklore that embodies the duality between the sacred and the profane. Through this figure, the artist explores the cultural syncretism of Latin America — Incan heritage, Catholicism, Mapuche traditions — while addressing social and economic inequality. Themes of life, death and the human condition run throughout his work.
His murals can be found in Chile, Belgium, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, Spain, Lebanon, India, Mexico and the United States. He took part in Wynwood Walls in Miami in 2015, the opening of the URBAN NATION Museum in Berlin in 2017, and the Peinture Fraîche festival in Lyon in 2019. His work is represented by galleries including Underdogs in Lisbon and GGA Gallery.
