Biography

PichiAvo is a Valencia-based artistic duo formed in 2007 by Juan Antonio Sánchez (Pichi, b. 1977) and Álvaro Hernández (Avo, b. 1985). Both trained in fine art and design before meeting on Valencia's graffiti scene, where they developed an instantly recognisable style often described as "urban mythology" — figures from Greco-Roman mythology layered with tags and lettering drawn from contemporary graffiti.

Their practice spans mural painting, sculpture and large-scale installation. In 2017, they became the first European artists invited to paint the Houston Bowery Wall in New York. In 2019, they completed the second-largest mural in the world in Porto alongside Vhils, and built a monumental twenty-six-metre sculpture for Valencia's Fallas festival. They have also painted at Wynwood Walls in Miami and the Hard Rock Stadium.

The duo has exhibited across more than twenty-five countries and collaborated with brands including Adidas, Mercedes-Benz and Bulgari. Their work is represented by StolenSpace Gallery in London, Wunderkammern and Harman Projects. Based in Valencia, they continue to fuse classical heritage with urban energy in a practice that moves seamlessly between public space and the gallery.
