Biography

Hsix is a Montreal graffiti artist who has been painting on the city's walls since the age of fourteen. After working under several aliases, he settled on the name Hsix. The "156" attached to his tag refers to his membership in the 156 All Starz, an international crew of elite graffiti writers with roots in the New York scene alongside artists such as JonOne.

Coming from traditional graffiti, the artist became known for his portraits of real-life "heroes and villains." The heroes are historical socio-political figures who made a positive impact on society — Norman Bethune, Lea Roback — while the villains are politicians, authority figures and celebrities whose actions or words drew public outrage. His satirical pieces, sometimes unsigned and created without self-promotional intent, attracted media attention while authorities remained uncertain of the artist's identity. Regarded as one of the finest portraitists on Montreal's urban art scene, he keeps a deliberately low online profile.
