Scaf

Pierre Bertolotti, known as Scaf, is a French urban artist from Nancy. He began painting graffiti in 2002, starting with BBoys — iconic figures of hip-hop culture. In 2004 he adopted the pseudonym Scaf, an acronym for "Super Conneries À Faire." A member of La Smala Crew, a collective of graffiti artists from eastern France, he initially developed a style rooted in cartoon art and photorealism.

From 2013 he worked professionally as a decorator under the name GrafoDeco, painting decorative murals across eastern France. Over time he specialised in anamorphosis — trompe-l'oeil paintings created in corners, stairwells and architectural recesses rather than on flat walls. Snakes, dinosaurs, insects and creatures from geek culture appear to leap from surfaces, in a register that borrows as much from blockbuster cinema as from humour. He systematically photographs himself alongside his works, inviting passers-by to interact with the ephemeral creations.

Thanks to Instagram, his 3D illusions have earned international recognition and festival invitations worldwide. Since 2016 he has lived entirely from his personal artistic projects. His references to popular culture — from Rick and Morty to The Lord of the Rings — and his command of perspective have made him one of France's leading figures in urban anamorphosis.
