Biography
Dean Stockton, known as D*Face, is a British street artist born in London in 1978. As a teenager, he discovered New York subway graffiti through Henry Chalfant's publications and skate culture via Thrasher Magazine — two influences that would shape his visual language. After studying illustration and design, he worked briefly as a freelance illustrator before devoting himself to street art in the early 2000s, starting with hand-drawn stickers and posters pasted across London.
His bright, graphic style subverts pop art and consumer culture, drawing on Roy Lichtenstein and Shepard Fairey's Obey campaign. He reinterprets cultural icons — Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, the Queen — in a register that is at once playful and critical. In 2005, he founded StolenSpace Gallery in Shoreditch, a space dedicated to urban art that has exhibited artists including C215, ROA, Miss Van and Shepard Fairey. His first major solo show, "Death & Glory," sold out there in 2006.
He produced the cover art for Blink-182's "California" and Christina Aguilera's "Bionic." His paintings and murals can be found in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Barcelona, Paris, Tokyo, Melbourne and Dubai. His work is represented by StolenSpace, Itinerrance in Paris, and documented by Artnet and Urban Nation in Berlin.
