Biography
Born in Utrecht in 1980, Leon Keer is a Dutch artist who has become one of the leading figures in anamorphic street art. Active as a visual artist since 1997, he learned mural painting by designing and producing large-scale advertising murals for multinationals such as Coca-Cola. A turning point came in 2007 when he was invited to an international street painting event in Utrecht, sparking his move into 3D pavement art and the mastery of optical illusions that would define his career.
His practice blends pop surrealism with emerging technologies — augmented reality and video mapping — to create works that challenge perspective and blur the line between flat surface and three-dimensional space. He addresses contemporary themes around the environment and the human condition, often through a lens of childhood nostalgia. In 2020, he published "In Case of Lost Childhood," a book encapsulating this visual universe.
His street paintings have been created in over twenty countries, from Australia and Japan to Mexico and the United Arab Emirates. In the Netherlands, he has collaborated with the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Fries Museum. Winner of the Street Art Awards Benelux 2018, he has shown at international art fairs including Art Miami, SCOPE Basel, and Moniker Art Fair in London.
