Biography

Born and based in Montreal, Five Eight is a multidisciplinary artist rooted in graffiti who has been painting since 2002. His practice stems from a fascination with the graphic evolution of stylised letterforms: he explores typographic shapes far removed from traditional wildstyle, developing a visual vocabulary where geometry, clean lines, and vivid contrasting colours converge. Since 2008, he has honed a bold chromatic vision that prioritises composition and transparency.

Around 2014, the artist expanded his practice by learning neon glass tube bending under master glassblower Gerald Collard. He exhibited his first neon works in 2016, opening a dialogue between light and paint that continues to inform his current research into mixed-media sculptural installations. This multidisciplinary range — from aerosol to blown glass — sets his approach apart within the Montreal scene.

A regular participant in the Mural Festival and Under Pressure, he has also exhibited in Canada, the United States, Estonia, Germany, Ireland, and Israel. He frequently collaborates with local artists such as Earth Crusher and works with the ASHOP collective. His figurative murals and lettering pieces can be found across multiple Montreal neighbourhoods.
