Biography
Active in Montreal since 1994, Astro — also known as Mister Astro — is one of the city's veteran graffiti artists. Inspired by old-school New York graffiti, European and Japanese cartoons, and funk, hip-hop, and jazz music, he developed an instantly recognisable graphic style built around monster characters and bold lettering. A member of the DUC crew alongside Pask, Koal, and Sino, he also belonged to the La Paria collective with Zema and Frank Lam.
Following an arrest that marked a turning point in his practice, the artist shifted to legal walls and studio work. He has painted murals at the Mural Festival, Meeting Of Styles, and MTL En Arts, and works in acrylic on canvas as well as digital illustration. His colourful creatures and clean graphic compositions can be found across Montreal neighbourhoods, from the Plateau and Rosemont to Hochelaga and Verdun.
