Biography
Born in 1980 in Tel Aviv, Dede — known as Dede Bandaid — began doing graffiti at thirteen, spray-painting a map of the Milky Way on his school walls. After four years of service in the Israeli Air Force, he took to the streets of Tel Aviv in 2006, seeking a visual outlet for the trauma he had experienced. The band-aid became his recurring symbol — a metaphor for repair, applied to personal wounds and social fractures alike. He went on to study at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, earning his BFA between 2007 and 2010.
A multidisciplinary urban artist, he works across murals, installations, assemblage, collage, and photography, using found materials — wood, cardboard, newspapers, industrial remnants. His work examines the paradoxes of contemporary existence: identity, belonging, the tension between home and away. Each intervention is conceived in relation to the site, uncovering stories and structures hidden within the changing city.
Now based in New York, the artist has exhibited since 2009 in Israeli galleries and museums — Kishon Gallery, Zemack Gallery, Haifa Museum, Ein-Hod Museum, and the Fresh Paint Art Fair. His work has also appeared in Montreal, Mexico City, London, Berlin, Paris, and Prague. Represented by MTArt Agency, he continues to develop international public art projects, including "Culture Fix Cleveland" in 2022.
