Biography
Born in 1982 in Cesena, Italy, Gola Hundun — whose real name is Nicolò Reali — trained at Ravenna's school of arts before earning a Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Bologna. He discovered graffiti at twelve through lettering, then quickly turned to illustration and studio painting. In 2003, he moved to Barcelona, where the city's DIY street art scene left a lasting mark on his practice. A three-month residency in India in 2006 infused his work with vibrant colours and naturalistic allegory.
A vegetarian since the age of sixteen, the artist places the relationship between humans and the biosphere at the heart of his work. His densely layered compositions intertwine animal, vegetal, and cellular elements in an organised chaos of fragmented shapes and symbols. Beyond mural painting, he incorporates sculpture, fibre, living plants, electronics, and performance into his public installations, exploring themes of shamanism, interspecies communication, and reconnection with the earth.
His murals can be found in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Brazil, Uruguay, Russia, Japan, Kazakhstan, and Australia. He has exhibited at the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia in Milan, Adda Gallery in Paris, and Art City in Bologna. Based between Barcelona and Rimini, a semester-long residency in Quebec in 2010 marked the beginning of his international reach.
