Biography
Active since the late 1980s along the railway tracks of Rotterdam, Ox-Alien started with tagging before switching to street art around 2000. In 2004, he created his signature character — a pink flying head with eyes shaped like an O and an X — which quickly spread across his home city and then around the world.
His style is cartoonish, colourful and tinged with mischief, built on latex-painted backgrounds — often dark blue — with spray-painted character details. The artist is a member of Lastplak, a Rotterdam-based collective of eleven painters with varied backgrounds that won the Public Choice Award at the first Dutch Street Art Awards. The collective has left its mark from Berlin to Los Angeles via St. Petersburg.
His work is held in the STRAAT museum collection in Amsterdam and features in Rotterdam's BKOR public art programme. He has taken part in mural projects in Thailand, France and Greece, and produced a pandemic awareness mural in Amsterdam's Geuzelveld neighbourhood.
