Biography

Snik is a British art duo based in Bristol, made up of Nick and Laura. Nick began painting as Snik in the mid-2000s after immersing himself in international street art scenes. The pair met in 2010 in their small hometown and discovered a shared passion for contemporary painting. Their first wall together in Bristol in the summer of 2011, alongside Ben Slow, launched a collaboration formalised in 2012 at the Stencil Bastards show in Zurich.

Their technique relies on hand-cutting stencils of up to nine layers, applied with spray paint and varnish to achieve depth and photorealistic qualities. Some stencils take over three months to produce. They balance chaos with control, combining precise graphic stencilling with deliberately loose paint applications — drips, bleeds and smudges. Laura brings colour theory and precision; Nick contributes raw, expressive energy.

Their contemporary take on Pre-Raphaelite portraiture, shaped by a dual male-and-female perspective, produces an immediately recognisable style. They have taken part in festivals including Nuart (Stavanger, Aberdeen), HK Walls (Hong Kong), Le Mur (Paris) and The RAW Project (Miami), and shown at the Urban Nation Museum in Berlin. Their self-produced exhibition "Ephemeral" explores themes of growth and decay in the natural world. They also work in bronze and print editions.
