Biography
Julien Malland, born on 24 October 1972 in Paris, began painting on the walls of the city's 20th arrondissement in the mid-1990s under the name Seth. He graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) in 2000 and published his first book, Kapital, that same year — a work that became a staple in graffiti culture.
From 2003 onward, he travelled the globe to collaborate with local street artists, documenting his experiences in the book Globe-Painter (2007) and later in thirteen episodes of Les Nouveaux Explorateurs on Canal+, filmed between 2009 and 2014 across Brazil, India, China, Senegal, Australia and beyond. The journeys earned him the moniker "globe-painter."
His signature imagery features children seen from a three-quarter rear view, rendered with precise outlines and a bold command of colour and shadow. Active in over fifty countries, he has shown work at Galerie Itinerrance in Paris, the STRAAT Museum in Amsterdam and the Urban Nation Museum in Berlin. He co-founded the publishing house L'Œil d'Horus and has authored several further books, including Tropical Spray (2010) and Extramuros (2012).
