Ride in peace

Ride in peace

Biography

A cycling enthusiast since childhood, the artist taught himself to tinker with, repair and restore bicycles from a young age. As a daily cyclist in Paris, he experienced first-hand the dangers faced by riders in city traffic. In 2013, after being given some thirty unused bikes, he created his first installation in the 1st arrondissement: a half-bike — front wheel and handlebars — bolted to a building facade with anti-theft screws.

The concept is simple yet striking: suspended bicycle fragments evoke both the beauty of the object and the violence of urban accidents. The project name plays on the double meaning of "ride in peace" and the acronym RIP, turning each installation into a poetic stele for endangered soft mobility. In his workshop in northern Paris, he welds salvaged parts onto iron bars before mounting them high on walls with the help of a ladder and accomplices.

Over 150 half-bikes are now scattered across the French capital. His urban sculptures have found their way into gallery settings, notably through Artsper, and were shown at the Artichoke festival. His work has been covered by Causette, Balises (BPI) and Culturez-vous.
