Biography
Independent artist and freelance illustrator, Jaek El Diablo is a graphic designer and activist in the Strasbourg graffiti movement. For over 10 years, he has been creating works and designs inspired by urban pop culture.
His creative process draws from graphics and typography stemming from what was once considered counterculture. In his fervent quest for reclamation, he explores a wide range of references, from cartoons to video games, album covers to movie posters. Jaek El Diablo likes to say, "Just as Hip Hop remixes sound or Tarantino's films blend genres, I enjoy sampling, mixing, scratching cultural references dear to me to express my own graphic style." Hip Hop culture, skateboarding, and the rock heritage are crucial sources of inspiration for Jaek El Diablo, who spontaneously feels a sense of belonging to these urban movements. His work appropriates and subverts styles, codes, and icons, paying homage with humor and subversion.
