Biography
Active since 1989, Cart'1 is a Lyon-based graffiti artist trained in applied arts whose work centers on black-and-white compositions, characters, and trompe-l'oeil effects. A devoted reader of Philip K. Dick, he cites the science fiction author as a fundamental influence, seeking through his murals to question perceptions and disrupt the viewer's relationship with reality.
After working with several communication agencies, he joined La Demeure du Chaos as an artist-in-residence in 2005. He then split his time between Lyon and Barranquilla, Colombia, where he lived for two years and founded the street art festival Killart in 2015. This dual base fostered a continuous dialogue between European and Latin American urban cultures in his practice.
Back in Lyon, he co-founded and became the artistic director of the Peinture Fraîche Festival, which has grown since 2019 into one of France's major street art events. Through the festival he champions unconventional profiles, bridging graffiti writers and digital artists, while continuing his own mural work — integrating characters and isolated elements into the architecture of each site he paints.
