Biography
Tomás Pires, who works under the name ÔJE, was born in Lisbon in 1987. Drawing and painting were early outlets for him, often tied to social observations and personal expression. He graduated in Environmental Design from ESAD.CR in 2010, and later turned the city's walls into his primary canvas.
In 2013, the artist stepped out of the studio and began painting murals — starting with small events and abandoned buildings, then receiving invitations to work across three continents: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, London, Miami, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, and Bogotá, among others. In 2020, he held his first solo exhibition, "Natureza Humana" (Human Nature), at Art Room in Lisbon.
Since 2017, the work has expanded into new materials, particularly wood. Sculpted pieces capture human expressions emerging from organic matter, exploring a symbiosis between human beings and the plant world — a search for balance between the two and a meditation on the ephemeral beauty that defines us.
