Biography
Nomen, real name Nuno Reis (1974-2022), was a pioneer of Portuguese graffiti. Self-taught, he began his first illegal incursions on trains and walls of Lisbon as early as 1989, at a time when graffiti culture was barely emerging in Portugal.
Nicknamed the "style swinger", the artist moved fluidly between dynamic typographic constructions and photorealistic portraits, exploring the balance between shapes and colors with a progressive purification of his compositions. His work gradually transitioned from illegal urban spaces to galleries and institutions, without renouncing its roots.
His pieces were exhibited at the Art Sur Panama Biennale (2011), Beit Ha'ir Museum in Tel Aviv (2018) and Le Carrousel du Louvre (2022). He left behind more than 1700 original canvases and many landmark murals across Portugal, including several walls at Bairro Padre Cruz in Lisbon.
