Biography
Márcio Bahia was born in 1983 in Eunápolis, in the state of Bahia, Brazil. A self-taught artist, he discovered his passion for painting at an early age and moved to Lisbon in 2008, the city he has called home ever since. He has been working full-time as an artist for more than fifteen years.
His practice favors large formats and a spontaneous approach in which colors gradually build up the image. Vibrant paintings — created with acrylic, graphite, and colored pencils — celebrate a contagious joy of life and explore a poetic, mysterious femininity. The artist describes his work as a meeting point between the beauty of what he observes and the feminine aura that surrounds it.
Recognized on the international scene, he has exhibited in Italy, Israel, and at the International Festival of Art Naif in Poland. His murals can be seen in Lisbon, notably in Bairro Padre Cruz, where he contributed to the transformation of the neighborhood into an open-air urban art gallery.
