Biography
Born in 1987 in Limoges to a German mother and a Chinese father, Sêma Lao — whose pseudonym means "sign" in ancient Greek — experimented with acrylic, pastel, oil, and digital drawing from childhood. Self-taught, she discovered spray painting in 2011 through her encounter with graffiti artist DershOne, and her mural journey accelerated in 2012 when C215 invited her to paint the walls of Vitry-sur-Seine.
Her work centers on portraits and faces — often of children — rendered with sincere, spontaneous expressions through a palette of saturated colors and controlled drips. She favors instinctive gesture, working directly with spray cans without preliminary sketches, playing with transparency, movement, and layering to create dynamic yet luminous compositions.
Long based in Limoges and now settled in Corrèze, she paints walls across France and internationally — Italy, England, Scotland — and exhibits in galleries including Comoedia and on platforms such as Artsy and Artsper. Her murals transform facades into vibrant portraits where color takes precedence over line.
