Biography
Born in 1971 in Chile, Otto Schade studied architecture at the Universidad del Bío Bío and practiced as an architect in his home country from 2000 to 2004. In 2005, he relocated to London's Shoreditch district and shifted toward urban art, while also working for architecture firms including Benoy and Zaha Hadid's studio, and lecturing on design at Southbank University from 2008 to 2013.
The artist developed an instantly recognizable graphic style: twisting, interwoven ribbons that compose his subjects through a visual language shaped by the surrealism of Dalí, Magritte, and Miró, as well as the darker imaginations of Giger and Beksiński. His murals, often carrying anti-war messages, blend his architectural training with a passion for urban sculpture and monumental painting.
Exhibiting and painting murals across four continents — Europe, America, Africa, and Asia — he has held solo shows in Chile, Germany, the United States, England, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, and Paris. His practice spans canvas, sculpture, body painting, stencil, and freehand spray work.
