Biography
Born in 1983 in Portugal, Vasco Maio connected with graffiti in 1998 and developed a distinctive relationship with public space and the city. After graduating in communication design from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, he worked as a graphic designer in the cultural sector from 2008 before setting up his studio in Almada in 2016 to focus on visual arts and illustration.
His work, rooted in fine arts with a strong emphasis on mural painting, draws inspiration from Portuguese folk culture and the ocean. The artist combines the plasticity of brushwork with spray paint, moving between canvas and wall in a style where maritime themes and folkloric heritage blend with contemporary sensibility. His compositions explore movement and fluidity, carried by palettes evocative of the Atlantic coastline.
Based in Cacilhas facing the Tagus, he has exhibited individually and collectively since 2001 and participates in numerous urban art projects in Portugal and internationally. His practice spans monumental murals, drawing, live painting, and workshop facilitation.
