Biography
Charles Cantin is a street artist based in Saint-Nazaire and the creator of the Les Oides project. Coming from a graffiti and lettering background, he invented in 2018 a small blue finger-shaped character — the Oide, derived from French backslang for "finger" — which he deployed over five hundred times across his city, each figure individually numbered like clues in an urban treasure hunt.
Once the five-hundred series was complete, he evolved his universe toward more elaborate narrative murals, staging his blue characters in humorous vignettes — pirates, cooking scenes, nods to social media. During the 2020 lockdown, he produced one ephemeral painting per day, erasing it each evening, fully embracing the temporary nature of street art.
Beyond Saint-Nazaire, his work extends across Brittany and western France, with interventions in Vannes during the Dédale festival, in Redon, Yffiniac, and even in the German twin city of Saarlouis. He now accepts commissions from schools, municipalities, and festivals while continuing to occupy public space spontaneously.
