Where to find street art in Brugge (Belgium)

Street art established itself in Bruges in the early 2010s, creating a striking contrast with the medieval facades and gabled buildings of the historic centre. The local scene is driven by Bruges-based artist Wietse, who has organised the annual festival The Bridges since 2020, inviting artists from Bruges, Ghent, and Leuven to paint murals across the centre and outer neighbourhoods.

The Legendz project has placed several large-scale works around 't Zand: Stan Slabbinck painted The Dance of Fools referencing a local legend, and Jamz created a multi-storey portrait of Mary of Burgundy. On Korte Raamstraat, artist ROA installed his signature monumental swan in black and white. The De Halve Maan brewery, in the Sint-Anna area, hosts an urban jungle mural by Wietse.

Wietse, Strook (Stefan De Crook), and Sammy Slabbinck are the most prominent figures in the local scene. Wietse blends Flemish fauna and architecture, Strook constructs figures from reclaimed wood salvaged from historic buildings, and Slabbinck works with magazine collage. Visit Bruges publishes dedicated walking routes to help visitors locate the city's documented murals.
