Where to find street art in Brussel (Belgium)

Brussels's street art scene took root in 1991 with the launch of the Parcours BD: over sixty murals honouring Belgian comic strip heritage were installed on walls between the city centre and Laeken. From the early 2000s, Bonom (Vincent Glowinski), a student at the La Cambre fine arts school, made his mark with monumental murals on Brussels facades, becoming the best-known figure of the local scene.

Saint-Gilles, a neighbourhood with numerous art schools, and Ixelles — where the Chaussée de Boondael hosts creations by twenty artists from the Propaganza collective — hold a notable density of works. Rue des Chartreux, in the city centre, features several large-scale murals. The official Street Art Trail documents over 150 works by Belgian and international artists, with free guided tours in three languages.

ROA, a Belgian artist known for his large-scale black-and-white animals, and Anthea Missy, a French artist based in the city, are among the most prominent figures on the current scene. The Parcours BD and the Street Art Trail form two complementary circuits. An annual street art festival brings together local and international artists for new outdoor interventions each year.
