Where to find street art in Palermo (Italy)
Street art in Palermo began taking shape in 2009 with the Wallpaper 09 project at Piazza Magione, which launched a movement of transforming historic markets and alleyways through mural interventions. The scene has been shaped by the city's multicultural identity, with works addressing anti-mafia resistance, cultural integration, and Sicilian traditions.
Ballarò, the oldest market in the city located in the Albergheria district, concentrates significant community murals. Kalsa hosts large-scale compositions along Via dello Spasimo and Piazza Magione, while the Cala district is home to a notable anti-mafia mural by Rosk & Loste depicting judges Falcone and Borsellino. Vucciria and Capo round out the circuit with spontaneous works on shutters and façades.
Igor Scalisi Palminteri and Ema Jons are among the most prolific local artists. The Ballarò Buskers festival, held each October in the Albergheria neighborhood since 2018, combines street arts, circus, music, and theater with the aim of revitalizing the historic market district. International artists including C215 and Axel Void have also contributed to the scene.
