Where to find street art in Saint-Pierre (Réunion)
Street art has been embedded in Saint-Pierre's urban landscape since the 2000s. The Terre Sainte neighbourhood, with its narrow streets and colourful houses, was one of the first areas to attract artists: on Rue Auguste Babet and Rue Archambaud, murals over six metres wide sit alongside tags and stencils. Since late 2015, Jace has operated his Usine à Gouzou there — a gallery-shop dedicated to his signature faceless characters.
The Tropicity festival, whose second edition took place in October 2023, commissioned three Réunionnais artists to paint facades in the Joli Fond district: Air 1 Duc at the Résidence Gare Routière, Yren at Résidence Les Equerres on Chemin de la Salette, and Mehdi MLC at Résidence Les Moutardiers. Each mural measured 10 to 12 metres in height and explored the common theme of nature.
The local scene brings together artists including Abeil One, Kid Kréol & Boogie, Méo, and Yren, working in aerosol, stencil, and mosaic techniques often inspired by Indian Ocean landscapes and Creole culture. The city's cultural centre features a collective mural created by many of the island's graffiti artists, centred on the local dish cari poulet. Initiation workshops are regularly offered to residents alongside festival events.
