Born in 1983 in Le Havre, France, Ratur (Arthur Maslard) has always been close to nature.
Growing up, he always felt close to nature. This connection is the driving force behind his work. Ratur began channelling his creativity through drawing and graffiti at a young age. He turned his focus to canvas and murals after completing his graphic design training.
His murals, sometimes realized with the help of his brother Oscar (Sckaro), depict dynamic stagings of bodies and faces. Their hyper-realism is enhanced by his unique use of color and brushstrokes. The sense of reality in his paintings is enhanced by his fascination with natural light.
His extreme attention to detail in drapery, flesh and skin tones is evident on canvas. Ratur follows in the footsteps of the Hungarian painter Istvan Sandorfi. He uses Flemish techniques and pastel colors.
His training as a graphic designer certainly influenced his juxtaposition of classical still life themes with abstract forms. Ratur portrays people confronted with a nature in ruins. He depicts mythical figures and symbols of eternal rebirth. His art is a challenge to our thinking about nature and its beauty.
Throughout Europe and the United States, Ratur has participated in numerous mural festivals and art shows. He will be exhibiting at 1AM Gallery in San Francisco, USA in the fall of 2021.
