Where to find street art in Angers (France)

Before the city council stepped in, Angers had a grassroots graffiti culture centered on informal spots like the Campus Saint-Serge walls and the concrete pillars beneath the A11 motorway bridge. The shift came in 2016 with the launch of Échappées d'art, an annual programme inviting French and international street artists to paint building facades across the Loire Valley city. What began as a handful of murals has grown into a nationally recognized urban art initiative, now entering its eleventh edition.

The trail runs from the medieval centre outward. Rue du Mail, Place du Pilori and Rue Saint-Aubin host large-scale pieces by artists such as Daniel Muñoz, Okuda San Miguel and Hitnes. Further out, La Roseraie features work by the local collective La Douceur, founded by Lemilo and Silas in 2017, while Belle-Beille and Monplaisir have gained their own murals through the programme's expansion. The Hauts de Saint-Aubin neighbourhood experiments with Paliss'art, a participatory project where residents decorate construction hoardings.

Free guided walks and cycling tours are organized each summer by the tourism office, and the Street Art Cities app maps every piece across the city. Artists including Nuria Mora, Tellas, Helen Bur, Faith47 and mosaic duo Waldo and MifaMosa have all contributed to the growing collection. The Mur Mur Moi initiative provides legal walls open to anyone for graffiti, stencils or paste-ups, keeping the grassroots spirit alive alongside the institutional commissions.
