Map of street art in Chantepie (France)
Street art took root in this small commune on the eastern edge of Rennes in the early 2010s, when the abandoned warehouses of the former Groupement Maraîcher Rennais produce cooperative became an open-air canvas for local graffiti writers. As demolition plans stalled, the derelict buildings attracted crews from across the Rennes metropolitan area, and by 2013 collaborative murals were already transforming the industrial ruins into a vibrant gallery of urban art.
The ZI des Loges industrial estate, centred on rue des Loges and rue du Moulin, is the heart of the local scene. The old cooperative hangars host dozens of ever-changing pieces, with fresh layers regularly covering older work. Nearby, the Leroy Merlin store features an Art Nouveau-inspired interior fresco by the La Crémerie collective, blending pastel florals with a painted panorama of Rennes.
Chantepie's most recognizable signature belongs to Lélé (Dabanadadou), whose monumental primate murals — including a striking "Planet of the Apes" series painted in 2017 — dominate the warehouse walls. Other notable contributors include T Tone, Deuxben, Artkor Bagdad and Jef, while youth graffiti workshops organized with residents keep the scene alive and constantly renewed. Though some buildings have since been demolished, the area remains a rewarding destination for anyone exploring Brittany's urban art landscape.
