Map of street art in Saint-Herblain (France)
Saint-Herblain, a western suburb of Nantes, has developed its urban art scene through the broader commissions programme carried by Nantes Métropole since the 2000s. Mural projects have progressively reached the façades of residential towers and green spaces across the outer communes, with a model that actively involves local residents in the design and creation of the works.
In 2017, muralists Ador and Semor carried out their participatory project "Parade, Balade et Distorsion" across several communes in the metropolitan area, including Saint-Herblain. The Sillon de Bretagne neighbourhood hosts the most prominent outcome: a monumental unicorn mural in the Parc de la Savèze, created in close collaboration with local residents.
Artists including Ador, Semor, Roger Dimanche and Pedro have contributed to around twenty documented works across the commune. The city relies on Nantes Métropole's "murs libres" initiative and regular commissioned projects to maintain a steady presence of urban art in its residential streets and public spaces, linking the suburban fabric to a wider metropolitan cultural network.
