Map of street art in Vannes (France)
Vannes developed its street art scene from May 2017, when the festival "Vannes et sa Street" — organised by the association L'Art Prend la Rue — brought together around twenty Breton artists near the Anne-de-Bretagne theatre. That same year, a disused administrative building beside the port became the setting for an ambitious artistic experiment: the DéDalE project.
Located on the left bank of the port in a building abandoned since late 2016, DéDalE — short for "Experiences, Artists, Ephemeral Place" — hosted 119 artists in residence and welcomed over 100,000 visitors before closing permanently on 31 December 2021. All works were created in situ, in dialogue with the abandoned offices and the building's administrative history.
Since DéDalE's closure, the scene has continued to grow through L'Art Prend la Rue's events and the work of local artists such as Aero, who combines contemporary calligraphy with Celtic symbols. The Golfe du Morbihan tourist office now offers guided street art tours of Vannes, mapping the permanent works spread across the city's streets and public spaces.
