Map of street art in Saint-Nicolas-de-Redon (France)
The Digue district once hosted shipyards dating back to the seventeenth century, later replaced by sawmills and timber industries. When severe flooding in the 1990s and 2000s shut down all industrial activity, the department acquired the seventeen-hectare site and classified it as a sensitive natural area. Street art gradually took root here, driven by local artist Jef Graffik and the Le TransfO residents' association, which has managed the grounds since 2005.
Most murals are found on the Transformateur site itself, where warehouses, silos and perimeter walls provide ever-changing canvases. Additional pieces appear in the town centre and neighbouring streets of Redon, painted during artist residencies held in the weeks before each festival edition. The interplay of industrial ruins, marshland and urban art gives this small Loire-Atlantique commune a character unlike anywhere else in the region.
Since 2020, the West Graffiti association has organised the Graffo Transfo festival, whose debut edition brought together sixteen artists and 2,300 visitors. Painters such as Mika, Erica Raio, War! and LadyBug have contributed alongside Jef Graffik and his Diaspora Crew collective. Awarded the ADAGP's Strada grant, the festival continues to turn a former port zone into an open-air gallery where nature and contemporary creation coexist.
