Map of street art in Rennes (France)

The Breton capital's ties to street art date to the early 1980s, when teenagers began experimenting with spray cans. The 1986 TGV link to Paris brought fresh influences, and in 2000 the Graffiteam collective painted the first large mural on the Colombier wall. Two years later the municipality launched the Urban Expression Network (RUE), providing thirty legal walls to channel tagging and foster creation.

Boulevard du Colombier hosts a Wall of Fame refreshed with each Teenage Kicks edition. The Courrouze, a former military site, features monumental pieces near its water tower. Beauregard stands out for giant facade murals, while Le Blosne works as a community art lab where residents co-create walls. In the historic centre, the M.U.R. gallery at 34 rue Vasselot unveils a new piece on the first Sunday of each month since its 2019 opening under the patronage of Blek le Rat.

The city nurtures artists like War!, whose clandestine animal murals draw Banksy comparisons, Mioshe with dreamlike creatures, and portraitist Aero. The Teenage Kicks biennial, co-founded in 2013 by Mathias Brez and Patrice Poch, commissions European muralists. The tourism office runs dedicated street art tours.
